Recently I have been running workshops on mindfulness to employees of local companies. These workshops haven’t covered every element of mindfulness, but have been a taster and hopefully from them, all the attendees will have left with a much better understand of what mindfulness is, and what it is not. Even if they do not put everything into practice, I feel that there will have been perhaps one or two exercises that they are easily able to incorporate into their every day life. It has been reported in the newspapers that just 25 minutes of stretching and mindfulness not only makes people more ambitious but boosts brain function, emotional control and energy levels. Matt Roberts, personal trainer to many well-known people, agrees with this view. He states, ‘I am a firm believer in meditation and mindfulness and I run a session every weekend for my staff and practise it twice a week myself. It won’t make all the stresses of life disappear, but it can make them easier to deal with. Yoga and/or meditation gives you time to be calm, and a chance to slow down and stretch. This lowers stress levels, which can only be good’.
Mindfulness – can it help you to gain promotion?
